Thunder and Lightning was a story I wrote and illustrated in the 1st grade. My mother wrote down the words. A few years ago I stumbled on it and took the original words and drawings and turned them into hand colored etchings made with Zinc Plates and chine collee.. Like the Cigar Box Respiro series the animals take on symbolic meaning of playful muses…. companionship, childhood, freedom. Since I have a fraternal twin brother I can guess that some of the friendship and complementary nature of the two horses stems from that. Thunder and Lightning is now a metaphor for not only the adventures of my husband and I but for other great couples we know, like our cats, Bapu and Diva.
