Ms. Buchman's work evokes a response of identification, poignacy, wonder, and humour. Themes and symbols explored include utopian or exotic worlds, Jewish icons, mysticism and stories turned into contemporary "midrash", feminine identities, animals as muses and the spiritual presence of a 3rd eye in creatures and trees, adventures, love, longings. Her wide painterly vocabulary of patterns, bold color, collage materials and glazes layer the work with richness and depth.
